Art is a unique interpretation or expression of someone or something. Traditionally, art is a means of telling a story or evoking an emotional response. Art is a representation of the cultural environment of the time. Alternately, art can also be used to respond to that culture. There are many forms of art. What form of art is loved by one person, may be detested by another. That is the beauty of the world of art. It truly is for every person on the planet to enjoy. Every person has some creativity in their soul. They just have to find it.

Art has always been a controversial statement. The popularity of many artists capitalized on this controversy. Artists are still doing the same today. There is a famous summer exhibition that takes place in the United Kingdom each year. This year the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition is drawing a lot of mixed reviews and controversy. This is the largest open-submission of contemporary art exhibitions in the world. This year, there were over 12,000 entries from 27 different world countries submitted. Of these submissions, 1,117 works of art are on display. This exhibition has been an annual event since 1769.

This year’s exhibition runs from June 7th to August 15th. The event helps to support the Royal Academy of Arts. This is also a place where exhibits are on sale. In past years, the exhibition has been highlighted as a display of world cultures blending together in the form of art. It is also an event where everyone is welcome to apply, and amateur artists are displayed alongside more prominent ones. There has always been a theme of universalism with regards to art. This year, the promoters of the summer exhibition have tried a different style. They did not stick to a theme hoping the have a more eclectic display.

Perhaps it is this change that has created the controversy. Reviews have been towards one extreme to the other. Many are dissatisfied with the lack of artistry. These detractors feel that the exhibition has become a place where the money is more important than the arts. Many are appalled at the lack of organization to the display. There are those that have expressed remorse over the missing element of unity. Many people feel that the entire mood this year is cold and a bit snobbish. This summer event has been known for its spontaneity and tolerance in past years.

There have been a lot of favorable reviews as well. It has been noted that the event has incorporated more photographic art this year. This is seen as a change for the better to many. There are a lot of modern art pieces on display. Many art lovers prefer more traditional forms of artwork. If beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, than perhaps art is in each individual’s soul. Art is an ever changing culture. Controversy in the art world has always existed , and will likely continue.
